Dear Sir or Madam:
I write this letter to inform you that I lost some of my properties which were insured in your company.
The theft happened on March 24, 2002, when my wife and I were having our vacation in New Zealand. In the evening, when we returned to our hotel room, I found my laptop computer, IBM ThinkPad 570 and a DVD player disappeared. The window and the door were still locked as usual. It was obvious that someone got into the room and took away the above items and some other things that were not very expensive. I called the police and took photos of the room. Their opinion was that someone came into the room through the window.
Attached please find some photos and a copy of the statement from the police.
My laptop is worth $ 2000, and the DVD player is worth $ 200. I bought them both at the end of last year.
Please advise me what I should do next in order to claim compensation for my loss.
Yours truly

Dear Sir or Madam:
I am one of your customers, and I just lost an expensive video recorder in a trip.
I joined a holiday tour last week. But on March 12, when I finished one day's sightseeing and went back to the hotel, I found my video recorder which was in a drawer missing. I had to recharge the batteries of the recorder so I didn't bring it with me on that day. I asked the floor waiter about the recorder but he said he didn't even notice it. I also complained to the manager of the hotel. He said he was sorry for my loss but he could do nothing about it. So I had to call the police. When I returned from the trip, I remembered that some of my properties, including the recorder, were insured by your company. Therefore, I am writing to let you know that I would like to claim compensation from you.
I have enclosed a copy of the police statement.
I look forward to your timely reply.
Yours sincerely,
