Nothing But Vogue
Coco is 13, and on the beginner slips(失足,滑) of shopping. She takes her inspiration(灵感) from teen magazines. There's not much she doesn't know about shopping, anywhere in the world.
Coco: I love to go shopping in Rome, right by the Spanish steps. They have a little kid's shop with all the designer clothes for me, that's where I love to go. And Pairs, the Lebon Marche, I loved it there. I loved all the places in Europe to shop. I think what age I felt like I was marketed by companies was when I was 7 years old, and the GAP had the “Valentine's Day” shirts. They had little cat shirts with the little tiaras(冠状头饰) on. I would buy those, and I would love them.
Coco's mother likes to help her daughter to shop, it's a regular part of life for Coco to go to one of her favorite designer boutiques(专卖流行衣服的小商店).
Coco: I'm trying to reinvent(重新包装,彻底改造) myself, you know, you can try to reinvent yourself in there. And it's key, because they have so many different styles.
Coco's mother: My opinion is meaningless, ha, ha, ha. I'm just here to pay.
Coco: I'm trying to look very cute and sexy, because I haven't looked like that in the past.
Coco's mother: You don't think?
Coco: Do you like this?
Coco's mother: No!
Coco: I like it.
Coco's mother: Ha, ha, OK.
Coco's mother: I go shopping, one way or another, almost every day, but with Coco, pretty much every weekend. She loves to go uptown also. And this is our favorite teen shop. This is a little Versace outfit. That is very cute on you. Occasionally I like some Versace, but only the couture (服装设计师或其服装店)stuff, the other stuff is a little too trashy(无价值的,没有用的) for me.
Coco: You know if you had something for Versace, it's nice, you know, to have something from a designer. It's nice, it just makes you feel good. And I know it's not like the anecdotes(轶事,奇闻) you want to make you feel good, but it's true. I think I might buy it even if it wasn't a Versace top, because I think it looks good on me. I think it fits me nicely, and I think it's the fun thrifty(节约的) top that I want.
Coco's mother: I think it's very stylish.
Coco: And style is everything. For Mary Ellen Cashman.
Coco's mother: Ha, ha. What did I add? A jewelry box for Coco's Tiffany jewelry. Are you happy?
What Coco learns now, will define her behavior in the luxury-shopping world of the future.
