Teaching method (教学法)

  由于我的教学方法以活动主,跟传统方式不太相同,有些学生并不喜欢这种教学法。但在这学年,学生们通过STS告诉我他们支持我的教学法,这令我十分欣慰。

  TEACHER'S

  Dear students,

  Two or three days ago, I told you to write down some M.C. answers on a piece of paper. Some of you did it pretty well. Ruby and Christina got nine correct answers while Jack got eight. Those questions are very difficult questions but they have got such high marks. I am really proud of them. I think we should give them a big hand (heavy clapping) .

  One of you told me he worried that later I would change my teaching method. He does not want any changes because he wants to learn in an interesting way. He said he would support me. I am really impressed. To be honest, sometimes I do indeed want to give up . I have been teaching in this school for many years and all along I have been trying hard to create interesting ways of teaching. But sometimes I did feel tired and depressed. Once a student told me that my teaching method was very“troublesome”and he wanted me to switch back to the old method. I was broken-hearted and I wanted to cry at that time. I was extremely tired at that moment and yet he still said that to me. Once I heard that, I even wanted to quit teaching but I didn't. Maybe you don't believe it-I'm a very weak person. I easily give up when I am faced with difficulties. Two years ago I wrote this poem (let me show you):

  “Being a good teacher is not an easy job . Sometimes I felt tired and I just wanted to stop.

  But thinking that maybe I could help a few, I then changed my mind and started everything anew.“

  Thank you for the support from all of you. I mean it from the bottom of my heart. Though I have been teaching you for only a few weeks, I feel that I can get along fine with you boys and girls. My dream is not that you get very good results in the public exam though I will be very happy if you do. My dream is that during these two years we get together, we learn how to forgive one another and care about one another. Perhaps we will not be a great person but most of us can be a nice person. Agree?

  If there is anything I can help you with or teach you, tell me in your next STS. One of you told me to teach her present continuous tense and future tense, and I did . I hope she understood. A quiz is coming next Monday. Get ready for that.

  留意不同用法:

  ●a piece/sheet of paper解作“一张纸”

  ●a paper解作“一份文件/试卷”

  pretty不可以用rather来代替,因为rather通常表示批评或失望,而这句的意义是正面而积极的。

  give (somebody) a big hand =applaud (somebody),解作“向(某人)鼓掌”。

  worry可以“主动”he worried that…或“被动”(he was worried that…)的语态出现。

  To be honest可以用Honestly来代替。

  all along是较口语化的英语,意思是:“一直/从开始起便……”。

  这里的Once是副词,意思是“曾经”。

  很多学生并不知道trouble(名词)作为形容词是troublesome.

  extremely是副词,多用于较负面/消极的形容词之前,例如:extremely dangerous/tired/disappointing.

  and yet = but

  这里的am faced with并不能以face/am facing来取代,因为后者的意思可以是:(勇敢地)面对。

  not an easy job意思跟not easy一样,但前者较通俗,听起来也较流畅。

  anew是副词,意思是“重新开始”。

  同意义的句子有:

  ●I'm not kidding.

  ●I'm serious.

  ●I'm honest.

  这句子中有四个动词,但语法正确,因为运用了三个连词。

  在we get together之前的连词when/ in which/that被省略了。

  one another并不能以each other来取代,因为所指的远远超过两个人。

  这里省略了连词that

  这里的and有特别意义,应解作“……而后来……”。

  在现代英语中,this和that区别不大。但事实上,that 比this更为普遍。

  LANGUAGE

  Article

  冠词(article):a、an或the的应用属于相当基本的语法知识范畴。简单来说,当我们使用一个可数名词(countable noun)的时候,我们要考虑是否需要加上冠词。此外,同学们也需注意不同的情况要用不同的冠词。让我们看看从本单元中挑选出来的一些例子。

  EXAMPLE

  1.He wants to learn in an interesting way.

  2.I'm a very weak person.

  3.Two years ago, a student wrote me this.

  4.A quiz is coming next Monday.

  5.…he wanted me to switch back to the old method.

  但有些情况并不需要加上a、an或the:

  EXAMPLE

  1.…I would change my teaching method.

  2.I have been teaching in this school.

  3.I have been trying hard to create(×) interesting ways(复数) of teaching. (不可数)

  4.I easily give up when I am faced with(×)difficulties. (复数)

  课堂的秩序愈来愈差,同学们在学习上也相继出现问题,不少同学在来信中也谈及这些问题。以下是我挑选的四段来信的内容,请在横线上加上适当的冠词(article),如无需加上冠词,请用×表示。

  2.I am so sorry that I have forgotten to do my STS this week . I want to tell you something about my part-time job. _____ day before yesterday I quitted _____ job because I want to concentrate more on my studies. I had worked in ______ restaurant for one year. …I felt so bored. I can't believe that I had worked in ______ restaurant for one year.

  3.It is difficult for me to hear ______ teacher during ______ Chinese History lessons. ______ classmates are talking around me . Sometimes I have ______ question but _____ teacher can't hear me. Forget it! I'll make friends with ______ one sitting next to me. Do you think it is ______ good thing ? Oh, I have ______ dinner now. Bye!

  4.I think being ______ teacher is not easy because ______ students always have many complaints about ______ teachers. …I have many good friends in this class. They always help me when I need ______ help.
