Better than writing a composition (比写作文更有意思)

  不少学生在他们的来信中向我倾诉感受和心愿,整个STS计划渐渐成为一个非常亲切的沟通渠道。

  TEACHER'S

  Dear students,

  I was very happy when I read your STSs though some of them were as short as one or two sentences. It was because all of you were really telling me something instead of writing a composition. You know——when we write a composition, very often we do not write down our true feelings. We are not trying to tell the teacher something that we really want to say. Actually, we are just trying to make less mistakes. As long as we do not make so many mistakes, we do not mind that the content is boring. But when I read your STSs, I felt differently. Most of you are really trying to tell me something. That is great! I do enjoy reading your stories.

  Some of you apologized (said sorry) to me for not turning in to me the second STSs. I was really impressed. Saying sorry to someone needs courage and you do have the courage. I am proud of you. You did not have the STS worksheets because you did not take notice of the details written down in the handouts. So, next time when you get a handout, be smart. You should make sure that you really understand every single part of the handout. If you do not understand anything, ask me. I am at any time ready to help you out. Come to me. I'm a friendly person. Right?

  I would like to say thanks especially to some of you because you are so much concerned about my health. You kept reminding me that I should not overwork myself. Thank you; really, thank you! You are right——I should not always work till late at night. You see — I made a change today. As today is a special holiday, I came back to school this morning and now I am writing this STS. The time now is only five in the afternoon. I am really glad that I could manage to change myself.

  But there is one thing that I am worrying about. For no special reason, my son's nose bled two days ago. Of course, it stopped a few minutes later. My daughter, however, also had a bleeding nose yesterday. I could not figure out why. We did not eat anything special these few days and the weather has not been particularly dry. And then today it was me. M y nose bled three hours ago. I did not do anything. I was just rubbing my nose a little bit as I was thinking about something. Blood ran out and a fewtiny drops fell on my trousers. I had to run to the washroom right away to clean up. I guess there is really nothing wrong with us. Just take it easy. I'm looking forward to seeing your STSs. Bye.

  留意正确用法:

  ●as short as√

  ●as long as√

  ●as same as×

  ●the same as√

  instead of 可用rather than来代替。

  You know是较口语化的英语,意思是“你知道吗?”。

  less mistakes可用fewer mistakes来代替。

  I felt differently的意思跟I had a different feeling相同。

  留意正确用法:

  ●enjoy read…×

  ●enjoy to read…×

  ●enjoy reading…√

  apologize的习惯用法是:

  apologize to (somebody)for (something)。

  用takes courage更能表现英语能力。

  若用did not pay attention to…则有批评的语气。

  基本上等于every part,但加上single后能加强传意效果。

  同义词包括:at all times, always.

  这里的concerned是形容词,解作“担心的”,接着用about /for都可以。

  很多学生仍弄不清health(名词)跟healthy(形容词)的区别。

  留意keep解作“不断”时的正确用法:

  ●keep remind me…×

  ●keep to remind me…×

  ●keep reminding me…√

  留意afternoon, morning和evening的正确用法:

  ●…this morning√

  ●…in this morning×

  ●…on this morning×

  ●…in the morning√

  ●…on Monday morning√

  比较不同用法:

  ●manage to change…√

  ●succeed to change…×

  ●succeed in changing…√

  也可用in a few minutes来代替。

  figure out 的意思是“弄明白”。

  I did not do anything 在这里的意思是

  I did not do anything special.

  很多学生都把fall和feel的过去式和过去分词混淆,其区别是:

  ●fall, fell, fallen

  ●feel, felt, felt

  用right away比at once或immediately的传意效果更强。

  looking forward to之后要用名词或动名词(gerund)。

  LANGUAGE

  Comma & full stop

  有些同学在用英语写作的时候常用逗号,很少用句号。他们都以为英语写作跟中文写作相似,可惜他们大错特错了。请看看STSs改写的例子。

  EXAMPLE

  英语语法规定:在一句没有连词的句子中,只可以有一个动词,而一句句子的终结用句号(full stop)。因此,若要语法正确,以上的一段文字应改为:

  EXAMPLE

  I was(动词) very happy. I read (动词)  your STSs. Some of them were (动词) as  short as one or two sentences. It was (动词)because all of you…

  以上一段文字虽然语法正确,但是读起来不太流畅。因此,我们往往会用连词将句子加长而不违反语法规则。

  I was very happy when(连词) I read your STSs though (连词)  some of them were as short as one or two sentences. It was because all of you…

  学生们渐渐开始喜欢写STSs.不少学生跟我分享他们的苦与乐,也有一些学生看过我的信件后,与我分享自己类似的经历。请在以下的STSs中加上标点符号(参考第一行的例子)。
