
Tobacco consumption is known as one of the most serious problems in today's world. The smokers call be seen everywhere: in the streets, in shops, on college campuses and so on. As is shown in the pie graph, there are 1. I billion smokers out of the 5.8 billion people in the world, accounting for approximately 20 percent of the total world population. This tremendous tobacco consumption not only causes vast economic loss but also threatens people's health. It can be seen from the picture that there is a loss of 200 billion US dollars and 3 million lives resulting from tobacco consumption every year.
However, more and more people have become aware of the harms of smoking to human beings. Many of them resist the addiction to tobacco and advise people around not to smoke. Furthermore, governments of many countries have taken effective measures to call on people to give up smoking. As a result, tobacco consumption is experiencing a decrease, which leads to the decline of tobacco production.According to the figures given in the bar graph, the tobacco production was 14.364 billion pounds in 1994 and in 1995 it reduced to 14.2 billion pounds. So I be lieve a healthy tomorrow of less tobacco consumption will be achieved through efforts of every person.
