  C: Good afternoon. Banquet Reservations. May I help you?

  G: Yes, I'd like to book a table for four.

  C: Are you going to take Chinese or Western cuisine?

  G: Chinese food. We are going to order some specialties.

  C: Is it for today's dinner?

  G: Yes, at 6:30 p.m…… If possible, try to arrange for a window table.

  C: May I have your name and room number?

  G: Catherine Randoph. My room number is 2112.

  C: Yes, Ms Randoph in Room 2112 reserves a window table for 4 at 6:30 tonight. My name is Xuzhen. We are looking forward to seeing you.

  G: Thanks. Good-bye.

  Part Two Banquet Reservations

  C: Good afternoon. Banquet Reservations. May I help you?

  G: Yes, I'd like to book a banquet in a private room at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow.

  C: Would you like Chinese, Western, Japanese or Korean cuisine?

  G: Chinese food, please.

  C: For how many people?

  G: Let me see. 9 persons.

  C: Yes, sir, 9 persons. How much for food per person? The minimum charge for a private room is 100 yuan per person.

  G: 120 yuan per person.

  C: 120 yuan. And what drinks are you going to have?

  G: Just get ready Henessy X.0…… We're going to order other drinks at the dinner time. All the drinks are on consumption basis.

  C: Yes, sir. May I know your name, please?

  G: Galley Spencer.

  C: How do you spell it?

  G: G-A-LL-E-Y, S-P-E-N-C-E-R.

  C: G-A-LL-E-Y, S-P-E-N-C-E-R. Yes, Mr Spencer. And your telephone number?

  G: 660-782-19.

  C: 660-782-19. You are not calling from Wuxi, are you?

  G: No, I'm calling form Shanghai. How do you know?

  C: The phone numbers in Wuxi are all 7 digit ones.

  G: I see. By the way, could you fax us the menu with the name of the banquet room? My fax number is 660-782-18.

  C: Yes, 660-782-18. We'll be sure to fax you the menu with the name of the banquet room, Mr Spencer. Is there anything else I can do for you, Mr Spencer?

  G: No, thanks.

  C: So, the reservation is made by Mr Spencer, a Chinese banquet for 9 people at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow evening. The price is 120 yuan per person excluding drinks. We'll prepare Henessy X.O……

  G: That's fine. Thank you.

  C: My pleasure. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow evening, Mr Spencer.

  Part Three Reserving a Meeting Room

  C: Good morning, sir. May I help you?

  G: Yes, I'd like to reserve a room for a lecture. Can you make some suggestions?

  C: Sure. How many people are you going to have?

  G: Around 60.

  C: When for?

  G: The day after tomorrow.

  C: That's the 2nd of November. For how long?

  G: From 8:30 to 10:30 in the morning.

  C: Yes, sir. A moment please. I'll check the room availability. Thank you for waiting. Your lecture will be arranged in the function rooms No.2 and No.3.

  G: Thank you.

  C: I'd like to suggest a classroom set-up.

  G: That'll be fine.

  C: Are you going to have a video show?

  G: Yes, I think so.

  C: We'll prepare 2 TV sets and 2 video players, the formats of which are automatically converted.

  G: That's great. Please also get ready a slide projector.

  C: We will. For your information, the room rental is charged on half day basis and there is a charge for the matching equipments.

  G: No problem. A banner is also preferred in the lecture room and a poster in the lobby.

  C: Yes, we will do that. Would you please write down the name of your lecture?

  Can I have a look at the function room now?

  C: Yes, follow me. The function rooms can be partitioned according to the needs of the guest. For the lecture like yours, two rooms will be just fine. (Now they are back at the reservation desk.) May I have your name and room number, please?
