John: Hello, welcome to Real English from BBC Learning English. I'm John.

  Helen: And I'm Helen.

John: Today we're going to look at words and phrases that you might not find in your dictionary.

  Helen: 地道英语和大家一起学习现代英式英语中经常出现的流行词汇和实用表达。那 John,今天你给我们带来的新词是什么呢?

  John: Today's phrase is airhead.

Helen: 我们今天的新词是 airhead 空气头. Any idea what it means John?

John: Of course I do, I use it all the time, in fact sometimes I'm a bit of an airhead. It means to be a stupid or unaware person.

  Helen: 嗯,airhead. 这个词的真正意思是指那些脑袋空空如也的傻瓜蛋, John 当然不是这样人了。这个词还有其它含义吗?

John: The term implies there is nothing in a person's head except air.

  Helen: 嗯,很容易理解,有些人很苯,一无所知,真的好象脑子里除了空气之外,其它什么都没了。

  John: Here's an example.

  Insert

A: Has Roger done all that paperwork?
  B: No, I think he's forgotten again.
A: Again? Really, that man's an airhead!

  Helen: 你还可以在 airhead 这个词前面加点其它词更加突出傻瓜的无知。

  John: He's a total airhead!

  Helen: 他完全是一个没头脑的傻瓜。

  John: He's a complete airhead.

  Helen: 或者你可以对某人的无知表示惊叹。

John: What an airhead! Well you've been listening to Real English from BBC Learning English. We've run out of time so, join us next time.

  Helen: 我们下次节目再会。

  John: Bye.

  Helen: Bye bye.
