2008-08-28 14:09沪江英语

  THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! XIE XIE!!!!!!!!!!!

So you think it is over, right ?Then, friend, you are wrong! So the fire is off. So what ?That means no more Bei Jing Huan Ying Ni ?You agree with me, that doors, arms and homes will keep being open for Lau Uais and all foreigners ?Will minds be opened less now, after the delegations left China ?So keep up the smile. What you did, how you did, and the way it was done, guarantees to this city and its people, definentely the right to say that it is not over. How many pictures ? millions of them, that were taken in and around the city, are now on their way home, from the Chilean Patagonia to the outskirts of Iceland capital city, Reykjavik. How many postcards are flying to bring a smile, a joy and the sweet nostalgia of the dear ones that were hear in Beijing, and now, with words, send a bit of the fun and emotions they had here ?How many gifts, phone calls, videos, Fuwa puppets, memories and tears, so many smiles, were taken from here to the rest of the world ?So, if one thing is sure, as the unanimous opinion that everyone has about the Water Cube being the most advanced sports structure in the world, is that it is not over.Still do not believe me that the Olympics are not over ?OK, I take the challenge of convincing you.Come with me….When the stadium was built, what the Chinese authorities said? “It will be great for 2 weeks for the worlds sportmen. And after that, the people of Beijing will use them”.It is for you, the people of Beijing. The People of China. And when the Boxers of China managed to win the very last medals of the Games, who did they run to thanks and share their joy ?The People. As did the Gymnastics boys, the swimmers, the Hockey girls and the weightlifters. Or someone still think it was just a coincidence that the Chinese girl, that won the Gold medal, after a fantastic fight with another Chinese, and did not say or smiled not once during the long match, suddenly started to make funny faces to the camera…?No, it was to share her happiness, with the people. It was the people that made the most beautiful show of the Mexican Wave in the Bird Nest, and the people that were the builders of every single sports facility in this city. The people were the volunteers, who without them, those games would be a terribly bad experience, a bad moment, without their smiles and kindness. Everyone, everywhere, athletes and stars, singers and actors, all of them, made the Olympics for you.For the people. And it is the people that now, laughs , like I did, because we can take now the Olympic Lane!!!!!!!!It is the people that will enjoy the great busses and the superb subway. The better air, the improved streets, and the fantastic networks created for internet and mobile communications. The people , you hear ?So, the Olympics ate made for the people and by the people. Before and after. The seven years of waiting, of suffering with the works, of building the sites, of fighting to get a ticket, a commemorative stamp, a new Olympic renminbi money note. All that was done by the people, and for the people.Anyhow, still here, driving in the Olympic lane, all the way to my place in Chowengmen, I keep thinking how special those Olympics are and were. And how they will keep on and remain great, alive and above all, leave their clear sign in the daily life of almost 20 million of Beijing citizens. This is your Olympics that as a stone of the Great Wall, will remain for ever.As for my Olympics, hehehehe, now we start talking.Because I have to be angry!I must be!How not to be angry, when I see that my city do not have the same facilities, the same transport system, the same peace in mind that hey have here? And that the people take care of it so well? And then I am happy. Because coming 26 hours away of flights, plus 7 hours of waiting in various airports, and then adding 11 hours of time differences, then seeing the Bird Nest, and Usain Bolt explode the World Record of the 100 meters, makes anyone happy. And I took it day by day… enjoyed every hour, trying to absorb, every minute I could out of the atmosphere of those Olympics that soo, driving in the Olympic lane, all the way to my place in Chowengmen, I keep thinking how special those Olympics are and were. And I took it day by day… enjoyed every hour, trying to absorb, every minute I could out of the atmosphere of those Olympics that soon the world will not see nothing that looks even close to this in Beijing. I woke up and looked at the sky, I breath deeply early morning the air of the city, and did not feel bad, sick or dirty. I took cabs, with drivers that do not know English, but were always polite, and decent, clean and wearing uniforms. And I am still waiting to have some stories of drivers that fooled the clients, by going the long way, or going around, just to charge a few more dollars from the foreigners. So far, no one came really to complain about it.Ever took a taxi in London and New York ? hope you know your way over there, know al the streets and ways…because the chance of getting lost and get fooled, are not that small…I ate in small and big restaurants and never felt bad or ill.I took busses, and got where I wanted, and still air conditioned.I ride the subway, and enjoyed the TV system, the free tickets and the clean environment. NOT PIECE OF PAPER ON THE FLOOR!!!! IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OLYMPICS WITH ONE MILION PEOPLE GOING AROUND THE TOWN!Did not see that in Barcelona, in Atlanta, in Sydney, in Athens…they were clean, but not as astonishing as the Olympic Games streets with Us.So my Olympics, as the new home I have in China people, want me to write, were simply unforgettable, the best of my six press coverages, and above all, the most humane. And I think that is why they are not over: because it is alive inside each and everyone one of Us, privileged people of this world, that were here at these fantastic and historical times.Again, I like to challenge!Come on! Can someone tell me that the Olympics were not nice ? Ayone?Ah, well, you want to say that maybe 10 or 15 kilometers of Beijing, the people do not have subways, do not have wide roads, and all the facilities…ok.But do you think that the people that live in the outskirts of Athens, or in the suburbs of London, and the poor areas of Atlanta, have or will have improvements? Why not take, at least the millions of citizens that do enjoy the improvements ? That did wait and suffer for 7 years, waiting for every thing to be ready, and now, can have some comfort. Can anyone speak anything about the Bird Nest, less than “amazing”, and “sensational ” ? Anyone…?Yes, some of you might say that the workers that build the Nest, did not enjoy or that hey were not having anyway to enjoy what they build…I can agree to that, completely, but , isn't it marvelous the result of the jobs they did with their hands? Isn't a well deserve applause to those workers, that welded day and night, the reaction of the people inside the stadium? The security and comfort the citizens from Beijing, the foreigners and all the Chinese that had the privilege to visit this wonderful stadium ?Is there anyone that can say that the events were not organized at the best levels, and that fans had safety, organization and fun , in every single sport? even if there are so many things to complain about, and to criticize, is any of those topics, more important than the real fact, the positive ones, that were seen and enjoyed here in Beijing. In a few words, ladies and gentleman, taking that last column about the Olympics ( hope not the last one for the Chinese media ), to express the good things, and give a space to the positive facts of the Olympics, the only goal I have, is to try and remind everyone, that there are enough reasons for the real important thing in the Games, the Olympic Spirit, is the winner. And Beijing get the gold medal for that too.Knowing that no white elephant is built among the stadia and gymnasiums, and that all of them have already a utilization plan for the near future, shows me that people have their head in the right place here in Beijing.Leonardo da Vinci always like to say: “To learn is the only thing that the mind does not get tired of doing, does not feel fear of and never regrets doing so”.Coming to learn about China and the Chinese, living for almost a month in Beijing, and sharing the Olympic skies with thousands of people from all over the world in this place, was the best learning experience I had in years. And so, why should such a nice array of facts, feelings and emotions, be forgotten.Strangely, when the Olympic Flame was spent, I felt sad for a second or two, But immediately after, I understood that inside Us, the flame is never off, as long as we lived through such an spectacular Olympics such as this one in BeijingLadies and Gentleman, if someone is right, it is the writer that sings: “Everyone is number 1”.From the top gold medalist, to the little lady sitting and watching over Beijing in her volunteer white shirt, and the fans, and the media, and everyone that took part, everyone goes home, in the morning after the end of the games, feeling that “everyone is Number 1”.Can someone say they are happy those Olympic days are over ?Beijing and China, I salute you. I thank you from of deep in my heart, for shoeing me how wrong was I , thinking the show would not be that great.AS I thank the people that gave me that space to write what I feel, so sincerely, and without many fear of sharing with anyone those thoughts. This is the Olympic Spirit : a lot beyond the medal, the marketing, the tough security.Time to pack. Time to say good bye. With a crazy will to come back!
